The snowman boxes are just too cute! I'm certainly NOT super creative like that...

However, I've learned, like many of you, I'm sure, that American Girl boxes tend to give themselves away! I think we're all going to have to think of LARGE creative box ideas to hide those familiar-looking boxes!

I like to use this idea for birthday parties. I make pillowcases that have a main fabric for the body, usually some type of theme print fabric, then add 2 colorful bindings, one about 1" deep and the next about 4" deep. I machine embroider the child's name on the 4" deep edge, and then put their present inside the pillowcase. I think sometimes they like the pillowcase the best!

Cute ideas so far! I really have none to share but love the Molly idea, Glenda! Jillian is going to be so excited when she sees her and the presents!

I used to rubber stamp a lot and decorated brown kraft paper with stamps and bags too. I also use "tulle" to decorate my packages with big bows. It's about $1 yd and I cut it into strips and tie it on my boxes. It looks really pretty.

I haven't really done much fancy wrapping these last couple of years but now that my DS is 4 I think it's safe. The last two years I couldn't leave him alone by the Christmas tree because he would open the boxes. Luckily he never opened any of his own gifts but it was frustrating to keep having to rewrap boxes!

I don't do much but sometimes if there's a small gift, I draw or paint some Christmas type-stuff on a piece of paper and use it as wrapping paper. I also sometimes make my own gift tags too.

I find my most creative ideas are when wrapping something for the dolls, because the presents are smaller so you can do more with less paper. I've wrapped dresses like "crackers" from England with a toilet paper roll and brown paper bag. Last year we saw the advent of the popcorn bag wrapping technique, as we had (and still have) a ton of those left over from Family Reading Night at my sister's school. (It looked really cute!) I also like to wrap them in bandannas.

My mom likes to do weird things with my doll boxes. I always know WHICH box is which (unless she hides it inside a bigger one) but she likes to decorate the inside. When Kailey came, her box was covered in pictures of Kit and Kat. My mom said she was going to switch either Kit or Kat with Kailey, but she thought that would be too mean.

In 2002 or 2003, I've forgotten which year, I requested an AG catalogue to look at, to see what was new, that sort of thing. It was when I wanted to get back into AG after being away at school, but before I had any real plans to make any big, new purchases. It was before Kaya, I remember.

At any rate, I cut the catalogue down the center fold and then I used the square pages to wrap presents for my family. I liked the AG Minis pages best, because the pictures of the rooms had less text, looked neater when folded up, and didn't have a huge color palette.

By re-using the catalogue like that, I not only recycled, but the gifts from me were among the most colorful under the tree! I don't really like holiday-specific wrapping paper, so this was a cool project.

I'm also really into collaging, after two weeks doing it at school, and I think you could make some neat wrapping papers that way with the catalogue or other old magazines, too.

I always love to hear creative ideas from HB members. Christmastime is coming and I wanted to start this thread where we could post creative ways to decorate packages for the holidays.

In the past, I've wrapped gifts in gingham fabric, tied ornaments onto the package bows, and included small Christmas books as the "Gift Tag" for gifts.

Here is a picture of one of my creative gift-wrapping ideas. My nephew had a Snowman theme Birthday party for his December Birthday so we wrapped his gifts to look like a snowman. Take a look...

Another time, DD had fun decorating plain blue gift bags that we bought at Michael's using paint and foam stamps, ric rac, felt, etc...

This year, I am planning to wrap all of DD's smaller gifts in green tissue paper. Then I'll put them in a brown box with "Do Not Open Until Christmas" written on the package. Molly will be dressed in pajamas and her coat and scarf, leaning over the pacakge when DD sees her on Christmas morning.

Please share your creative gift-wrapping ideas.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">HA! So true! Remember the older Pleasant Company boxes with the cardboard sleeve around the outside? When I was a little girl I could always tell if something was from Pleasant Company because I could feel the cardboard sleeve around the box right through the wrapping paper! Eventually my mom started taking the sleeves off and putting them inside the boxes so I wouldn't be able to guess my gift!
